Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Returns to Port After Over 150 Passengers Fall Sick

January 9, 2011-According to reports a Royal Caribbean cruise ship had to return to port early after more than 150 passengers fell ill.

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Radiance of the Seas returned to port on Saturday after over 150 passengers became ill with an intestinal illness.

The Radiance of the Seas returned to its home port of Tampa Florida from a five night voyage that included the ports in Cozumel and Costa Maya Mexico. According to reports there were over 150 passengers of its 2236 passengers suffering from a gastrointestinal sickness. There were also crewmembers that became ill during the cruise with this illness.

A Royal Caribbean cruise lines spokesperson stated that it is suspected that the passengers were affected by the stomach flu, which is highly contagious. The statement went on to state that while there is high health standards on the cruise ship the Norovirus is a common gastrointestional illness and the Radiance of the Seas crew did everything possible to make the trip better for the ill passengers, including medical care.

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship that was expected to leave port again today will be delayed while the ship undergoes an enhanced sanitizing at the port terminal to prevent any illness to affect passengers boarding the ship for the next cruise.
