Roof Peels Off Southwest Flight Causing Emergency Landing

April 2, 2011 – According to reports at Ehline Legal News, a Southwest airline plane made an emergency landing after the roof began peeling off.

According to authorities Southwest flight 812 from Phoenix to Sacramento, California had to make an unscheduled landing at an Arizona military airport. According to Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration, there were 118 passengers aboard the Boeing 737 when the roof peeled off of the plane. The Southwest plane landed at 4:07 p.m. at the Yuma Marine Corps Air Station after declaring an emergency.

There were holds in the fuselage approximately three feet long where insulation and wiring could be seen and a tear the length of one of the ceiling panels.

According to passengers the drink orders had just been taken when there was a loud noise and the oxygen masks cam down, and the plane began making a rapid decent. According to reports there were no passengers injured and one flight attendant with minor injuries.
The Southwest airplane was reported to be eighteen years old.
